Self-publishing rancor is out of place

Rocky Mountain News books editor Patti Thorn's Grinch column of Dec. 13, "No. 1 on editor's wish list: help!," earns coal for her stocking - lots of it. Thorn's blast on self-published books is out of place and a few years out-of-date. Granted, there are lots of books published each year - some great ones and some not so great ones from self-publishers - and from New York houses. To throw all self-published books into the trash heap is irresponsible and downright ignorant.

Please read the following guidelines:

  1. You must be a member of Colorado Independent Publishers Association
     

  2. Limit words to approx. 1500 words and include a brief by-line including any links that you feel are necessary for readers to contact you by.  All articles should be submitted by email with text inside the body of your email, or an attached Microsoft Word document. (no fancy layouts)
     

  3. Include your photo no larger than 72 dpi and 86x123 pixels.
