You knew that already. But what exactly are the opportunities for participation in CIPA? Here are at least eight things you can do to make your Associate Membership pay off. 1. Attend monthly meetings. Coming to CIPA's monthly meetings puts you in direct contact with members and guests. You'll meet prospective customers and learn more about book publishing from high-caliber speakers. Mark the third Saturday of each month for CIPA meetings. (See Calendar for exact dates.)
2. Do a presentation at a monthly meeting. Speaking of high caliber speakers - be one! Are you an authority in your field? If you are interested in giving an information-based presentation, contact the Program Chair at programs (at) cipabooks.com with your idea. The goal is not to advertise your specific business - but to educate the members in your specialized field. Hint: Provide members with detailed and informative handouts with your web address and contact information at the bottom of your handout.
3. Volunteer on committees and/or CIPA's Board. You know it's true: the more you put in, the more you'll get out of your membership. Go to our volunteer page see where you can volunteer your time and talents. Try it, you'll like it!
4. Submit an Article to CIPA Signature. Write an information-filled article in your area of expertise and submit it to the Newsletter editor at newsletter (at) cipabooks.com for inclusion in the CIPA newsletter. Keep it informational. CIPA will put a brief company description and contact information at the end so that members who read it and want to know more about your business can contact you. (Maximum 600 words.) Better yet - place an eye popping advertisement in the Signature!
5. Submit an Article to the CIPA Articles & Tips Page. The Articles & Tips page is a great resource for information from CIPA Associate Member service providers which establishes your credibility and professionalism to members and your target market. Submit informative articles to webmaster (at) cipabooks.com for consideration to post on the site. Be sure to include a jpeg photo of yourself! If accepted, the article would include a link to your member listing on the site.
6. Exhibit at CIPA College. CIPA College, held in March each year, is our premier full-day seminar that attracts 250+ attendees. Exhibiting is cost effective and the organizers ensure attendees have ample time to visit exhibits. Better yet, help organize the exhibits! You can find out more information by visiting our college page.
7. Answer questions on Publishing Qs &As. What are the most common publishing question you get? How do you answer it? Write up a Q&A and send to CIPA's webmaster (at) cipabooks.com for consideration to post on the site.
8. Submit a display ad for CIPA's web site. Details for posting display ads on CIPA's web site are still being developed. Contact the webmaster at webmaster (at) cipabooks.com
9. Submit informative tips in the eStarTime ezine. Post tips, announcements for articles and freebies posted on your web site for CIPA members. Always include links, email addresses and contact information so that members can contact you. Again - the goal is to establish yourself as an authority in your field. The more members see you giving information and assisting them in their publishing success, the more business you attract.
