SEPTEMBER 2017 CIPA PRESIDENT’S LETTER
By: Alexandra O’Connell
Welcome to another great year with the Colorado Independent Publishers Association. I’m excited to step into the role as your new President and to see what new horizons our organization can reach!
2016-2017 was a banner year for CIPA in many ways. We celebrated the 25th anniversary of our founding by Evelyn Kaye, and the 23rd year of the CIPA EVVY Book Awards. More of our members have published high-quality books in genres spanning the gamut of fiction and nonfiction, and our service providers continue to reach out to aspiring authors to assist them in creating powerful and successful books. Speaking of the CIPA EVVYs, 2017 saw record interest in the awards with more entries and more judges than ever before, in both technical and genre categories. We love seeing the enthusiasm, the energy, and what’s more, the high quality of our independent publishing space. Congratulations to all! Our 2017 CIPA EVVY Awards Banquet capped another stellar publishing year. Photos of the event can be found here.
October of 2018 marks the third consecutive year that CIPA is offering our members the opportunity to participate in the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association Fall Discovery Show, getting their books in front of 250+ booksellers and publishers, and forging valuable publishing contacts. Our Author Showcase has sold out, but there are still spots available in the Book Showcase. This is a great opportunity to access book buyers and participate at an industry trade show at an affordable price. Members only. This year’s show is October 12-13 at The Renaissance Denver Stapleton Hotel, and all Showcase details must be finalized by September 30th. Secure the spot for your book today!
CIPA is a member-driven organization and continues to rely on your feedback and the contributions of our volunteers. Whether you are looking for modest ways to give back or you seek to have an ambitious impact on our industry, we’d love for you to get involved. Opportunities include:
- marketing and outreach
- website and social media
- audio and video production
- the CIPA EVVYs
- the CIPA Education and Literacy Foundation
- …and more. Please reach out to myself or any of the other members of the Board to get involved!
Finally, I am excited to share that our Board is working on ways to enhance and improve your membership. As we take steps to make CIPA a more valuable and impactful organization for you now and into the future, we continue to welcome your comments and suggestions on how we can provide value to you.
It is an honor to work with you in this coming year. I look forward to accomplishing great things (and having a lot of fun) together. Onwards & upwards!
