Chapter 3: Passport, please. Who Are You and What’s Your Story?
How to find your audience, create interest in your story and market yourself; even before your book is published… and beyond.
November 16th, 2019
You may have the next NYT bestseller written. Or you may have on your computer right now the pages of the story you have always wanted to share with other people for the sake of telling the story.
Whether it is market success or the satisfaction of having you work read or a healthy combination of both you need to find your audience. And of course, your audience needs to be able to find you. CIPA’s November 16th meeting is all about building your author’s platform and marketing your work. Come and get known or at least find out how to.
Panel Discussion with Nathan Lowell- Author • Mary Walewski- Publishing Marketing Professional • Tanja Pajevic- Writing Coach
Nathan Lowell became a full-time, self-published author in July 2012, and hasn’t looked back. He started writing fiction seriously in 2007 when he began his long-running SF series, publishing it as a podcast-only work until 2010. He started studying online interactions before we called them social media. He holds an MA and Ph.D. in Educational Technology where he studied social relationships and communications theory to better understand the online learning environments. He holds sometimes iconoclastic views on platform building and believes that indies should learn from the mistakes the traditional publishing industry has made.
Mary Walewski is a book marketing consultant who specializes in online marketing. She founded Buy The Book Marketing in 2005 and works with authors and indie publishers all over the world. Her author services include creating and executing book marketing plans and individual coaching for social media and marketing. She is a former board member and president of CIPA.
