Roadmap to Copyright Compliance

The road to self-publishing can be challenging for many CIPA members. As with most journeys, the trip can be made more enjoyable with traveling companions and a handy guide to help you along the way. Our fellow CIPA members and service providers are those companions and CIPA is now supplying* one of the handy guides to use with your membership, Copyright Clearance for Creatives.

On November 17th, you will have the opportunity to hear from two veteran self-publishing travelers, Joyce and Dan Miller, co-authors of Copyright Clearance for Creatives about how you can best navigate the copyright aspects of your journey to successful self-publishing.

New and renewing CIPA members (since June 4th, 2018) have received or will receive their gratis copy of this 192-page printed guide to copyright as a membership gift (Copyright Clearance for Creatives). Joyce and Dan will be making frequent references to the guide to emphasize the guidance therein.

The presentation will cover:

  • The “why, when, where, and how” of copyright as they relate to writers and editors.
  • How the world has changed in regards to copyright and the importance of author responsibility and awareness of copyright issues.
  • Pitfalls currently facing authors.
  • Resolving problems caused by contemporary legal issues related to copyright.

Come prepared to make notes in your copy of the book and ask questions aplenty!

Roundtable Topics:

Table 1) What to look for in publishing contracts / hosted by Steve Replin, an attorney for writers (Replin Law Group)

What are the hidden traps for authors using the new breed of “self published” publishers and why they are often wolves in sheeps clothing.

Table 2) Facebook Strategies for Authors / hosted by Mary Walewski, Buy the Book Marketing

  • Should you still be on Facebook?
  • When to run ads
  • How to build your audience

Table 3) The Publishing Process 101 / hosted by Dr. Patricia Ross, Hugo House Publishers

Patricia has published 80 books, and has helped 200+ more authors through the process as their editor!

Table 4) Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur / hosted by Dr. Ingrid Pyka, Going Beyond Strategy

This is a deep look in how to avoid the pitfalls that entrepreneurs and authors make, and how to assure longevity in a project.
