Some Sum Summertime!!!
The heat is on and we are ready to celebrate 25 years of CIPA-dom!!! We have what we have because of Evelyn Kaye of Blue Panda Publications and CIPA’s first president. A travel writer, it was her foresight to gather people from the world of independent publishing to bring many opportunities that many of us could never have imagined. We’ve come a long way from the first lunch meeting she arranged in 1992.
Now we get to celebrate with the first ever CIPA Presidents’ Picnic on June 17th. We’re bringing as many CIPA Presidents back as we can to commemorate the successes of the past two and a half decades. Everyone is definitely welcome! Members, non-members, writers, readers, publishing partners – bring the whole family. I am so excited to have the time on Saturday to talk with all the amazing people in our “tribe” –and meet the many more. This will be a low-key, enjoy the grill, get-to-know everyone pot-luck.
We are also in the grand preparations for the CIPA EVVY Awards Banquet and Gala.
All the books for the competition are in and in the process of getting scored. The release of the finalists is coming in just a few weeks and then on August 19th we get to celebrate the many successes in independent publishing with spectacular awards ceremonies. Talk about partying with the best…!
All this greatness doesn’t happen without the dedication from those in our community. Thank you to all our volunteers, and, especially to my 2016-2017 CIPA Board. I want to express a HUGE thank you to Barbara Stafford of Eclectic Entertaining for spearheading the entries and overseeing the CIPA EVVY’s. Another shout-out also to Mary Walewski (past-CIPA President) of Buy the Book Marketing, who is managing the many judges for our record-breaking number of entries.
To the rest of my amazing board members, I have applauded you before, but I will take this opportunity to do it one more time!
Bravo to Alexandra O’Connell (Your Resident Wordsmith), Bree Weber (The Book Octopus), and Zoe DeVito (Let’s Grow Solutions) for the incredible job of bringing amazing programs to CIPA in front of more eyes than ever before! To our Treasurer of the past two years, Ann Nye West (Bristlecone Publishing) immense gratitude of keeping our books in order and finances safe. Mike Daniels (The Publisher’s Coach), I thank you for your constant wisdom and resources you bring to our association and members. Catherine Scott, award-winning author (Divine Ordinariness, A Way of Seeking God and Booze at Breakfast) your diligence in scribing and support kept me on track. Bob Schram (Bookends Design) your help in designing beautiful programs and awards – priceless. Thank you all for a spectacular CIPA Season…and here’s to the summer celebratory start of another!
