March 2017 CIPA President’s Letter

I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again. – Oscar Wilde

Refreshment, growth, new beginnings. For many of us springtime is a symbol of new energy and vigor.

We are in full swing of the annual CIPA EVVY Award submissions. Our once empty shelves are quickly filling with books of all sorts! Fiction, romance, how-to’s, mysteries, and so much more. It is truly a blessing to see so much talent coming forth.

A sentence, a paragraph, an image, a layout, a title – how long do we fret making them perfect? How many times do we delay releasing our work with intentions of grander versions in the next go ‘round? How often do we change words or pictures yet again, and again,…and again?

And, how long do we keep our work from reaching those that can enjoy and benefit from the message we wish to deliver?

As our panel experts agreed during a previous lively CIPA discussion, at some point, we must simply accept the work we have done and launch.

So, for those of you that have already launched to any level of publishing your work, I congratulate you! If you’ve been caught in a cycle where you have not moved forward as you would like, perhaps now is the time to do so. Those with a story or an artistic gift still hidden from the rest of us? We’re ready to see it! Launch to your next level!!!
